NSW Blues Team List for State of Origin 2026 Game II: Full Squad Confirmed for Melbourne Clash

The New South Wales Blues have officially confirmed their squad for Game II of the 2026 State of Origin series, with head coach Laurie Daley making several key changes as his side looks to build on its dramatic victory in the opening match.

NSW heads to Melbourne with confidence after securing a thrilling 22-20 win over Queensland in Sydney. The Blues showed remarkable resilience in Game I, fighting back late in the contest to claim victory against a Maroons side reduced to 12 players. The result has given NSW a valuable 1-0 lead in the series and an opportunity to wrap up the shield in Game II.

Daley’s latest squad announcement features a mix of experienced Origin stars and emerging talent, while injuries and form have also played a role in several selection decisions.

Key Selection Changes for NSW

One of the biggest talking points is the return of Mitchell Moses, who has been named at five-eighth alongside Nathan Cleary. Moses’ inclusion means Ethan Strange, who impressed on his Origin debut in Game I, is expected to provide impact from the interchange bench.

At fullback, James Tedesco has retained his position despite facing pressure from Dylan Edwards. While Tedesco’s performance in the series opener wasn’t flawless, the experienced representative star has once again earned the trust of the coaching staff.

The Blues backline has also been reshaped following an injury setback to Stephen Crichton. Initially selected by Daley, Crichton was later ruled out after suffering an injury during the Bulldogs’ clash with Parramatta. As a result, Casey McLean and Kotoni Staggs are set to form the centre pairing, while Mark Nawaqanitawase has been added to the extended squad.

On the wings, Brian To’o and Tolu Koula retain their places after solid performances in Sydney.

Forward Pack Receives Major Boost

The return of Payne Haas is another significant boost for NSW. One of the game’s premier front-rowers, Haas strengthens the Blues’ middle rotation and adds valuable experience and power.

His inclusion pushes Addin Fonua-Blake to a bench role, while Jacob Saifiti misses selection. Newcastle forward Dylan Lucas earns a starting spot in the back row, highlighting the coaching staff’s confidence in his recent form.

Meanwhile, Haumole Olakau’atu has been listed as the 20th man after missing out on a place in the primary match-day rotation.

Hooker Battle Settled

There had been speculation surrounding the hooking position, with Reece Robson under pressure to retain the starting role. However, injuries elsewhere have worked in his favour.

With Cronulla captain Blayke Brailey sidelined due to a broken arm, Robson remains NSW’s starting dummy-half, while experienced representative player Api Koroisau joins the squad as additional cover and impact from the bench.

Blues Eye Series Victory

With a strong blend of leadership, experience, and youthful talent, the Blues enter Game II determined to secure back-to-back victories and clinch the 2026 State of Origin series.

Although Isaiya Katoa has not been named in the official squad, he will remain in camp as cover for Mitchell Moses and the halves. His presence provides valuable insurance as NSW prepares for one of the biggest matches of the season.

All eyes will now turn to Melbourne, where the Blues have an opportunity to seal the series and continue their momentum against a Queensland side desperate to keep the contest alive.
